Variable Darner

Edmund Murton Walker (5 octobre 1877 au 14 février 1969) est un entomologiste canadien reconnu pour la découverte de la famille des Grylloblattidae et du genre Grylloblata chez les Orthoptères et pour son travail remarquable sur l'ordre des Odonates. Sa famille est d'origine britannique, il est né à Windsor en Ontario, au Canada, fils ainé de Sir Byron Edmond Walker. En 1943, il se maria avec Norma Ford, l'une de ses anciennes étudiantes.

The variable darner (Aeshna interrupta) is a dragonfly of the family Aeshnidae, native from Alaska through the Northwest Territories to Newfoundland, south to New Hampshire and Michigan in the eastern United States, and to the mountains of New Mexico, Arizona, and California in the west. It's named after the distinctive broken stripes on the sides of the thorax of many male specimens. It lives in many habitats from northern and mountain peatlands to cattail marshes and temporary pools.

Aeshna es un género de aguaciles o libélulas, odonatos anisópteros de la familia Aeshnidae distribuidos por la región Holártica. El nombre Aeshna fue acuñado por el entomólogo danés Johan Christian Fabricius en el siglo XVIII. El nombre puede ser el resultado de un error de imprenta en la ortografía del griego Aechma, traducido como "una lanza".
