Ancistrus tamboensis is a species of freshwater ray-finned fish belonging to the family Loricariidae, the suckermouth armoured catfishes, and the subfamily Hypostominae, the suckermouth catfishes. This catfish is endemic to Peru. Taxonomy Ancistrus tamboensis was first formally described in 1945 by the American zoologist Henry Weed Fowler with its type locality given as Satipo, in the upper Tambo River basin, Ucayali River drainage, Peru, from an elevation of 600 m (2,000 ft).
