Northern Star Coral

Astrangia poculata (anciennement A. danae) est une espèce de coraux durs appartenant à la famille des Rhizangiidae. Cet animal marin hétérotrophe se nourrit de plancton qu'il attrape à l'aide de harpons nommés nématocystes, responsables de la sensation urticante caractéristique des cnidaires.

Astrangia poculata, the northern star coral or northern cup coral, is a species of non-reefbuilding stony coral in the family Rhizangiidae. It is native to shallow water in the western Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean Sea. The International Union for Conservation of Nature lists this coral as being of "least concern".

Astrangia poculata, el coral estrella del norte o coral de la copa del norte, es una especie de coral no reconstituyente en la familia Rhizangiidae. ​ Es nativa de aguas poco profundas en el océano Atlántico occidental y el mar Caribe. También se encuentra en la costa occidental de África.
