Lanternfish

Bolinichthys supralateralis est un poisson Myctophiformes. Référence Parr : Deepsea fishes of the order Iniomi from the waters around the Bahama and Bermuda islands. With annotated keys to the Sudididae, Myctophidae, Scopelarchidae, Evermannellidae, Omosudidae, Cetomimidae and Rondeletidae of the world.

Lanternfish (or myctophids, from the Greek μυκτήρ myktḗr, "nose" and ophis, "serpent") are small mesopelagic fish of the large family Myctophidae. One of two families in the order Myctophiformes, the Myctophidae are represented by 246 species in 33 genera, and are found in oceans worldwide. They are named after their conspicuous use of bioluminescence.

El género Bolinichthys son peces marinos de la familia mictófidos, distribuidos por gran parte de los océanos. ​ Son pequeños, con una longitudes máximas que oscilan entre 4 y 12 cm según la especie, con fotóforos a lo largo de su cuerpo que producen bioluminiscencia, lo que le ayuda en la gran profundidad en la que viven, donde no llega la luz y reina la oscuridad. ​ Especies Existen siete especies válidas en este género:​ Bolinichthys distofax (Johnson, 1975) Bolinichthys indicus (Nafpaktitis & Nafpaktitis, 1969) - Mictófido índico.
