Günther's Black Snake

Bothrolycus ater, unique représentant du genre Bothrolycus, est une espèce de serpents de la famille des Lamprophiidae. Répartition Cette espèce se rencontre : au Cameroun ; en Guinée équatoriale ; au Gabon ; en République du Congo en République démocratique du Congo. Description L'holotype de Bothrolycus ater mesure 46 cm dont 4 mm pour la queue.

Günther's black snake (Bothrolycus ater) is a species of poorly known lamprophiid snake endemic to central Africa. It is the only member of the genus, Bothrolycus. This snake is notable as one of the few snakes with notable sexual dimorphism (males have 17 scale rows, females have 19), as well as possessing a small pit anterior to the eye.

Albrecht Carl Ludwig Gotthilf Günther (también Albert Charles Lewis Gotthilf Gunther; Esslingen am Neckar, 3 de octubre de 1830 - Hampton Wick, 1 de febrero de 1914) fue un zoólogo británico, nacido en Alemania. Estudió teología en Bonn y Berlín y después estudió medicina en Tubinga. En 1856 fue al Museo Británico, donde trabajó en Ictiología.
