Brycon is a genus of freshwater ray-finned fishes belonging to the family Bryconidae, and order Characiformes. The fishes in this genus are found in Central and South America, ranging from southern Mexico to northern Argentina. Despite not being closely related to true trout, they are sometimes called South American trout.

Brycon melanopterus es una especie de pez de la familia Characidae en el orden de los Characiformes. Morfología Los machos pueden llegar alcanzar los 30 cm de longitud total y 4350 g de peso. ​ Hábitat Vive en zonas de clima tropical entre 22 °C - 26 °C de temperatura.
