Les ouakaris (Cacajao) forment un genre de primates de la famille des Cebidae. Les noms scientifiques et vernaculaires du genre semblent avoir une origine indigène. Les ouakaris sont différents et insolites par rapport aux autres singes des Amériques car la longueur de leur queue (15-18 cm) est substantiellement inférieur à la longueur de leur tête et de leur corps (40-45 cm).
The Aracá uakari (Cacajao ayresi), also known as the Ayres black uakari, is a newly described species of monkey from the northwest Brazilian Amazon. It was found by Jean-Phillipe Boubli of the University of Auckland after following native Yanomamo Indians on their hunts along the Rio Aracá, a northern tributary of the Rio Negro. It was subsequently described in 2008 together with the more westerly distributed Neblina uakari.
El uakarí de Araçá (Cacajao ayresi) es un primate platirrino perteneciente a la familia Pitheciidae. Distribución Habitan en un área pequeña en el extremo norte de Brasil, en el bosque húmedo de la cuenca del río Araçá. Su área de distribución se encuentra al norte del río Negro, pero sus dimensiones exactas no se conocen aún.
