Callicore pitheas

Callicore pitheas est une espèce de lépidoptères (papillons) de la famille des Nymphalidae et de la sous-famille des Biblidinae et du genre Callicore. Dénomination Callicore pitheas a été décrit par Pierre-André Latreille en 1813 sous le nom initial d' Erycina pitheas. Synonyme : Catagramma pitheas ; Godman & Salvin, [1883].

Callicore is a genus of nymphalid butterfly found in the Neotropical realm. This genus, like some related ones, was formerly lumped together as the paraphyletic Catagramma assemblage. Species in this genus are commonly called eighty-eights or numberwings like the related genera Diaethria and Perisama, in reference to the characteristic patterns on the hindwing undersides of many.
