Coarse-haired Pocket Mice

La sous-famille des Perognathinae rassemble deux genres de mammifères rongeurs de la famille des Heteromyidae. Elle comprend des souris à abajoues ou souris à poches. Cette sous-famille a été décrite pour la première fois en 1875 par Elliott Coues (1842-1899), un médecin-militaire, historien, écrivain, mammalogiste et ornithologue américain.

Heteromyidae is a family of small mammals in the order Rodentia and part of the Castorimorpha suborder. Members of this family are called heteromyids and include kangaroo rats, kangaroo mice, pocket mice, and spiny pocket mice. They are found in North America, Central America, and the northwest tip of South America, primarily in forests, shrublands, and deserts, though some species can be found in grasslands or rocky areas.

Los ratones de abazones o ratones de bolsas (Chaetodipus) son un género de roedores heterómidos. Se les llama así debido a las grandes cavidades que tienen en las mejillas, en las que almacenan y transportan su alimento. Los nombres comunes son compartidos con los roedores del género relacionado Perognathus.
