The Amazon kingfisher (Chloroceryle amazona) is a species of "water kingfisher" in subfamily Cerylinae of family Alcedinidae. It is found in the lowlands of the American tropics from southern Mexico south through Central America to northern Argentina. Taxonomy and systematics The first formal description of the Amazon kingfisher was by the English ornithologist John Latham in 1790 under the binomial name Alcedo amazona.

El martín pescador amazónico (Chloroceryle amazona) es una especie de ave coraciiforme de la familia Cerylidae que reside en las tierras bajas de los trópicos americanos; se distribuye geográficamente desde el sur de México a través de Centroamérica al norte y centro de Argentina. No se conocen subespecies. ​ Características Tiene 29 a 30 centímetros de largo total y pesa 110 gramos aproximadamente.
