Lez Sculpin

Le chabot du Lez (Cottus petiti) prononcé [kabo] est une espèce de poissons découverte dans le Lez, un fleuve côtier de l'Hérault, en France. Dénominations Nom scientifique valide : Cottus petiti Băcescu & Băcescu-Meşter, 1964 Nom vulgaire (vulgarisation scientifique) : Chabot du Lez Découverte En 1964, des chercheurs roumains, Mihai Bacescu et Bacescu Mester, étudient les loches et demandent à la France des échantillons de ces poissons de diverses rivières. Un chabot provenant du Lez (Hérault) figurait dans le lot.

Cottus petiti, also called the chabot du Lez in French, is a species of freshwater ray-finned fish belonging to the family Cottidae, the typical sculpins. It is endemic to France, found only in a small 3 km stretch of the river Lez in Southern France near Montpellier. The natural habitat is fed by karstic springs which may have enabled the isolated survival of the population through geological history.
