Southern Ladyfish

Elops est un genre de poissons téléostéens.

The malacho or Southern ladyfish, (Elops smithi) is a species of ray-finned fish in the genus Elops, the only genus in the monotypic family Elopidae. Description Elops smithi like other species in its genus, has a long, slender, round body covered with silvery scales. The mouth is terminal and the tail is deeply forked.

Los malachos, machetes, bananos o tarpones machete son el género Elops, único de esta familia Elopidae de peces incluida en el orden Elopiformes. ​ Su nombre procede del griego ellops, un tipo de serpiente. ​ Aparecen por primera vez en el registro fósil en el Cretácico inferior.
