Eastern Pondhawk

L'Érythème des étangs (Erythemis simplicicollis) est un insecte odonate de la famille des Libellulidae. En Amérique du Nord, on la retrouve à partir du centre des États-Unis jusqu'à l'est. Au Canada, elle est présente dans le sud des provinces de l'Ontario et du Québec.

Erythemis simplicicollis, the eastern pondhawk, also known as the common pondhawk, is a dragonfly of the family Libellulidae, native to the eastern two-thirds of the United States and southern Ontario and Quebec, Canada. It is a dragonfly of ponds and still waters. The species is distinguished in that the female is bright green with a banded abdomen and the mature male has a blue abdomen with a green face and green and blue thorax.

Las libélulas, los insectos del Orden Odonata, tienen coloraciones hermosas y conductas interesantes. Los adultos son predadores de insectos en vuelo y las ninfas predan pequeños animales acuáticos, incluyendo vertebrados. En Cuba existen registros de 85 especies en 41 géneros y 7 familias (Cenbio – Cuba 2007).
