Hemimycale columella, the crater sponge, is a species of marine demosponge in the family Hymedesmiidae. It is the type species of the genus Hemimycale and is widely distributed across the Atlanto-Mediterranean region. Description Hemimycale columella is an encrusting sponge that grows in a cushion with a diameter of 10–30 cm and a thickness of more than 1 cm.
