The laughing falcon (Herpetotheres cachinnans) is a medium-sized bird of prey in subfamily Herpetotherinae of family Falconidae, the falcons and caracaras. It is found from Mexico south through Central America and in every mainland South American country except Chile and Uruguay. Taxonomy and systematics The laughing falcon was formally described in 1758 by the Swedish naturalist Carl Linnaeus in the tenth edition of his Systema Naturae.

El halcón reidor​ (Herpetotheres cachinnans), también conocido como halcón guaco, halcón risueño, yacabó, guace, guacaba, valdivia , guaicurú y patagüay es una especie de ave falconiforme de la familia Falconidae distribuida desde el norte de México hasta el noroeste de Perú y norte de Argentina. En ciertos países se le conoce como «guaco», en relación con el fuerte sonido que emite. Características Mide 53 cm de largo y pesa 600 g.
