Apapane

L' Apapane cramoisi ou Drépanide rouge ou ʻapapane en hawaïen (Himatione sanguinea) est une espèce de passereau endémique de Hawaii. Dénomination Gmelin, 1788, avait originellement nommé cette espèce Certhia sanguinea dont le nom spécifique latin fait référence à la couleur rouge sang du plumage. Le nom générique Himatione tire son étymologie du grec himation, une cape rouge portée par les Spartes, également en rapport avec la coloration de l’oiseau.

The ʻapapane ( AH-pah-PAH-nay;) (Himatione sanguinea) is a small, crimson species of Hawaiian honeycreeper endemic to the Hawaiian Islands. They are the most abundant and widely distributed honeycreeper and are found on the islands of Hawaiʻi, Maui, Lānaʻi, Kauaʻi, Molokaʻi and Oʻahu. ʻApapane commonly forage in the canopies of ʻōhiʻa (Metrosideros polymorpha) trees, drinking nectar from the flowers and serving as important pollinators.

Himatione sanguinea (ʻApapane en hawaiano) es una especie de ave de la familia Fringillidae y única representante del género Himatione. Es una especie endémica de Hawái. Al igual que las plumas del 'i'iwi, las de esta ave eran usadas para adornar la vestimenta del jefe del clan.
