European Glow-worm

Le lampyre, Lampyris noctiluca, communément appelé ver luisant, est une espèce d’insectes coléoptères de la famille des Lampyridae, de la sous-famille des Lampyrinae. Le mot vient du latin lampyris, qui vient lui-même du grec λαμπυρίς, dérivé du verbe grec λάμπειν, « briller ». Il s'apparente aux lucioles (du genre Luciola, sous-famille des Luciolinae).

Lampyris noctiluca, the common glowworm of Europe (see also "glowworm"), is the type species of beetle in the genus Lampyris and the family Lampyridae. Lampyris noctiluca presents conspicuous sexual dimorphism. The males are winged, with brown elytra, a clearer pronotum and a large brown spot in the middle, while females are larviform, with no wings, and they are often twice the size of the males (up to 25 millimetres (1 in) in length).

La luciérnaga común europea (Lampyris noctiluca), también llamada popularmente como gusano de luz, es una especie de coleóptero de la familia Lampyridae. ​ Fue descrita por primera vez por Carlos Linneo en 1767. ​ Lampyris noctiluca presenta un marcado dimorfismo sexual.
