Norway king crab

Lithodes maja, aussi appelée Araignée épineuse ou Lithode arctique, voire Crabe épineux du Nord, est une espèce de crustacés appartenant à la famille des « crabes royaux », bien qu'elles ne soient pas des crabes à proprement parler et soient plus proches des bernard l'hermite. Morphologie Lithodes maja possède une carapace quasi circulaire, avec un rostre pointu, de couleur rougeâtre ou marron et peut atteindre jusqu'à 14 cm une fois adulte. De longues épines sont présentes sur le rebord de sa carapace, ainsi que des petites épines, plus fines, sur les pattes.

Lithodes maja, also known as the Norway king crab or northern stone crab, is a species of king crab that occurs in colder North Atlantic waters off Europe and North America. It is found along the entire coast of Norway, including Svalbard, ranging south into the North Sea and Kattegat, the northern half of the British Isles (with a few records off southwest England), and around the Faroe Islands, Iceland, and off south-eastern Greenland. In the West Atlantic, it ranges from the Davis Strait between Greenland and Canada south to The Carolinas in the United States.

Lithodes es un género que agrupa un conjunto de especies de crustáceos marinos que reciben el nombre común de centollas. Se lo incluye en la familia Lithodidae, la cual es el ejemplo más notable de calcificación entre los decápodos. ​ Distribución Sus especies habitan en el lecho marino en aguas costeras y frías de casi todos los océanos.
