The species is sexually dimorphic, as males have a larger body, longer canine teeth and brighter coloring.

El mandril (Mandrillus sphinx) es una especie de primate catarrino de la familia Cercopithecidae (monos del Viejo Mundo). Está emparentado con los babuinos y más estrechamente con el dril. El mandril y el dril se clasificaron en el pasado dentro del género Papio, pero investigaciones posteriores llevaron a separarlos en un género propio, Mandrillus.
