The belligerent sculpin (Megalocottus platycephalus), or flathead sculpin, is a species of marine ray-finned fish belonging to the family Cottidae, the typical sculpins. This species occurs in the northern Pacific Ocean. Taxonomy The belligerent sculpin was first formally described in 1814 as Cottus platycephalus by the German zoologist Peter Simon Pallas with its type locality given as Kamchatka and the Sea of Okhotsk.
