Melanophila consputa, the charcoal beetle, is a species of metallic wood-boring beetle in the family Buprestidae. It is found in Central America, North America, and Oceania. Like other members of their genus, charcoal beetles are drawn to forest fires, which they find using sensors near their legs that detect infrared radiation.

Melanophila consputa es una especie de escarabajo joya del género Melanophila, orden Coleoptera. ​ Fue descrita por LeConte en 1857. ​​​​​ La especie se mantiene activa entre los meses de febrero y diciembre, especialmente en julio, agosto y noviembre y su actividad es prácticamente nula en el mes de enero.
