The white-flanked antwren (Myrmotherula axillaris) is a species of bird in subfamily Thamnophilinae of family Thamnophilidae, the "typical antbirds". It is found from Honduras to Panama in Central America, in every mainland South American country except Argentina, Chile, Paraguay, and Uruguay, and on Trinidad. Taxonomy and systematics The white-flanked antwren was described by the French ornithologist Louis Pierre Vieillot in 1817 and given the binomial name Myrmothera axillaris.

El hormiguerito flanquiargentino​ u hormiguerito luctuoso​ (Myrmotherula luctuosa), es una especie (o la subespecie Myrmotherula axillaris luctuosa, dependiendo de la clasificación adoptada) de ave paseriforme perteneciente al numeroso género Myrmotherula de la familia Thamnophilidae. Es endémico del litoral oriental de Brasil. Distribución y hábitat Se distribuye por el litoral de Brasil, desde el extremo sureste de Río Grande do Norte, hacia el sur por los estados de Paraíba, Pernambuco, Sergipe, Alagoas, Bahía, Espírito Santo, hasta el extremo sureste de Río de Janeiro.
