Common Burying Beetle

Burying beetles or sexton beetles, genus Nicrophorus, are the best-known members of the beetle subfamily Silphinae (carrion beetles). Most of these beetles are black with red markings on the elytra (forewings). Burying beetles are true to their name—they bury the carcasses of small vertebrates such as birds and rodents as a food source for their larvae; this makes them carnivorous.

Nicrophorus es un género de escarabajos de la familia Silphidae. El género fue descrito por Johan Christian Fabricius en 1775. ​​​​ Llamados escarabajos enterradores o escarabajos sacristán, son los miembros más conocidos de la familia de escarabajos carroñeros.
