Ornate Tinamou

Répartition et sous-espèces Selon la classification de référence du Congrès ornithologique international (version 15. 2, 2026), le Tinamou orné est représenté par 3 sous-espèces (ordre phylogénétique) : Nothoprocta ornata branickii Taczanowski, 1875 — centre du Pérou ; Nothoprocta ornata ornata (Gray, GR, 1867) — sud du Pérou, ouest de la Bolivie et nord du Chili ; Nothoprocta ornata rostrata Berlepsch, 1907 — sud de la Bolivie et nord-ouest de l'Argentine.

The ornate tinamou (Nothoprocta ornata) is a type of tinamou commonly found in the high altitude grassland and dry shrubland in subtropical and tropical regions of west central South America. Etymology Nothoprocta comes from two Greek words, nothos meaning spurious or counterfeit and prōktos meaning hindpart or tail. Experts are unsure, however, they believe that this refers to the hidden tail of this Genus behind body feathers.
