Dénomination Mycastor nealces a été décrit par William Chapman Hewitson en 1871 sous le nom de Nymphidium nealces. Sous-espèces Mycastor nealces nealces; présent en Guyane Mycastor nealces amoenum (Stichel, 1928); présent au Brésil.
