Appalachian Tiger Swallowtail

Papilio appalachiensis ou Machaon tigré des Appalaches est une espèce d'insectes lépidoptères (papillons) de la famille des Papilionidae, de la sous-famille des Papilioninae et du genre Papilio. Systématique L'espèce Papilio appalachiensis a été initialement décrite en 2002 par les entomologistes américains Harry Pavulaan (d) et David M. Wright (d) sous le protonyme de Pterourus appalachiensis.

Papilio appalachiensis, the Appalachian tiger swallowtail, is a species of swallowtail butterfly found in eastern North America, particularly in the Appalachian Mountains. It is a hybrid of another two Papilio species, Papilio canadensis and Papilio glaucus, with which it shares many characteristics. The butterflies are normally yellow and contain black patterns in their wings.
