Classification

The whitespot hawkfish (Paracirrhites hemistictus), the halfspotted hawkfish, multicolored hand-fish and ornate hawkfish, is a species of marine ray-finned fish, a hawkfish belonging to the family Cirrhitidae. It is found in the Indo-Pacific region. Taxonomy The whitespot hawkfish was first formally described in 1874 as Cirrhites hemistictus by the German born British ichthyologist Albert Günther with the type locality given as the Society Islands.
