Golden-Eyed Stick Insect

Peruphasma schultei est une espèce de la famille des Pseudophasmatidae de couleur noire présentant des ailes rouges à l'âge adulte qu'ils déploient pour faire fuir les prédateurs. Il a des yeux jaunes et il est originaire du nord du Pérou. Pour cette raison, et selon son nom de genre, il est parfois appelé phasme du Pérou ou phasme péruvien de Schulte, mais il ne faut pas le confondre avec Oreophoetes peruana appelé aussi phasme du Pérou.

Peruphasma schultei, known as the black beauty stick insect and the golden-eyed stick insect, is a species of phasmid found in the Cordillera del Condor region of northern Peru. In the wild the insect feeds on Schinus plants, but will feed on privet, Aucuba japonica and honeysuckle in captivity. In Peru they are only known to exist in a region of less than 5 hectares, usually on volcanoes or mountains, but since their discovery they have become increasingly popular as pets worldwide due to their unusual colouration and they are now bred regularly in captivity.

Peruphasma schultei conocido como insecto palo de la belleza negra, insecto palo de terciopelo o insecto terciopelo de alas rojas, es una especie del orden de los insectos palo. El nombre común insecto palo del Perú, hace referencia al hogar y a las plantas alimenticias de los animales. ​ Descubrimiento Peruphasma schultei fue descubierto en 2004 en la Cordillera del Cóndor en el norte de Perú.
