Water Stick Insect

Ranatra is a genus of slender predatory insects of the family Nepidae, known as Water mantis, water scorpions or water stick-insects. There are more than 140 Ranatra species found in freshwater habitats around the world, both in warm and temperate regions, with the highest diversity in South America (almost 50 species) and Asia (about 30 species, reviewed in 1972). Fewer are found elsewhere, but include several African, some in North America, three from Australia and three from the Palearctic, notably the relatively well-known European R.

La ranatre linéaire (Ranatra linearis) est une espèce de punaises aquatiques de la famille des Nepidae, sous-famille des Ranatrinae et du genre Ranatra. Elle se trouve dans les étangs et étendues d'eau peu profondes, à proximité des berges et peut atteindre jusqu'à 7 cm de longueur. Description D'aspect très linéaire, semblable à un phasme, la ranatre est pourvue d'un long siphon respiratoire dans le prolongement de l'abdomen.

El insecto palo acuático, también conocido como mantis acuática (Ranatra linearis) es una especie de chinche acuática de la familia Nepidae. ​ Es originaria de Eurasia y el norte de África, y se encuentra principalmente cerca de plantas acuáticas en estanques, pantanos y otros hábitats de agua dulce, pero se ha registrado excepcionalmente en lagos hipersalinos y lagunas salobres. ​ Descripción El cuerpo de estos insectos marrones mide típicamente 3-3,5 cm (1,2-1,4 plg) de largo.
