The apple maggot (Rhagoletis pomonella), also known as the railroad worm (but distinct from the Phrixothrix beetle larva, also called railroad worm), is a species of fruit fly, and a pest of several types of fruits, mostly apples. This species evolved about 150 years ago through a sympatric shift from the native host hawthorn to the domesticated apple species Malus domestica in the northeastern United States. Rhagoletis pomonella​ ​ (mosca de la manzana)​ es una especie de insecto del género Rhagoletis de la familia Tephritidae del orden Diptera. Walsh la describió científicamente por primera vez en el año 1867. Es originaria de América del Norte, donde sus larvas infestan frutos de especies nativas de Crataegus (espino) en toda su área de distribución.
