Burrower bug

Scaptocoris est un genre d'insectes hétéroptères (punaises) assez particulier car il appartient à la famille des Cydnidae et donc ses espèces sont souterraines à tous les stades, larvaires et adultes. Géographiquement, c'est un genre d'insectes du continent sud-américain (c'est-à-dire la zone néotropicale) et ne comporte que quelques espèces. Les larves et les adultes se nourrissent en piquant les racines de plantes.

Cydnidae are a family of pentatomoid bugs, known by common names including burrowing bugs or burrower bugs. As the common name would suggest, many members of the group live a subterranean lifestyle, burrowing into soil using their head and forelegs, only emerging to mate and then laying their eggs in soil. Other members of the group are not burrowers, and live above the soil layer, often in close association with plants.
