Sebastes helvomaculatus, the rosethorn rockfish, is a species of marine ray-finned fish belonging to the subfamily Sebastinae, the rockfishes, part of the family Scorpaenidae. This species is found in the Eastern Pacific. Taxonomy Sebastes helvomaculatus was first formally described in 1859 by the American physician and ichthyologist William Orville Ayres with the type locality given as San Francisco, California.
