Baird's Tapir

Le Tapir de Baird (Tapirus bairdii (Gill, 1865)) est l'une des cinq espèces de mammifères appartenant à la famille des Tapiridae. Cette espèce de tapir a été nommée d'après le zoologiste Spencer Fullerton Baird (1823-1887).

The Baird's tapir (Tapirus bairdii), also known as the Central American tapir, is a species of tapir native to Mexico, Central America, and northwestern South America. It is the largest of the three species of tapir native to the Americas, as well as the largest native land mammal in both Central and South America. Names The Baird's tapir is named after the American naturalist Spencer Fullerton Baird, who traveled to Mexico in 1843 and observed the animals.

El tapir centroamericano, norteño o de Baird (Tapirus bairdii) es una especie de mamífero perisodáctilo de la familia de los tapíridos, una de las cuatro especies americanas que existen de tapir. Puebla las selvas tropicales existentes desde el sur mexicano hasta el noroeste de Colombia, con presencia no confirmada en Ecuador. Es la especie más grande del género en el continente americano.
