Doubtful Acorn Ant

Temnothorax pilagens est une espèce de fourmis de la sous-famille des Myrmicinae. Cette fourmi est esclavagiste, son nom pilagens vient du latin pilare « pillarde ». Elle se rencontre en zone néarctique, au nord-est des États-Unis et au sud-est du Canada, toujours à proximité de ses hôtes Temnothorax longispinosus et Temnothorax ambiguus.

Temnothorax pilagens (from Latin: pilare, "to pluck", "plunder", "pillage") is a small Nearctic species of slave-making ant in the subfamily Myrmicinae. It occurs in northeastern United States. It raids the acorn castles of other insects (Temnothorax longispinosus and Temnothorax ambiguous) and captures them as slaves and has been nicknamed the pillage ant.
