Bog Copper

Le Cuivré des tourbières (Lycaena epixanthe) est une espèce d'insectes lépidoptères (papillons) de la famille des Lycaenidae et de la sous-famille des Lycaeninae. Dénomination Lycaena epixanthe nommé par Jean-Baptiste Alphonse Dechauffour de Boisduval et John Eatton Le Conte en 1833. Synonymes : Polyommatus epixanthe Boisduval & Leconte, [1833]; Epidemia epixanthe ; Dyar, 1903.

Lycaena epixanthe, also known as the bog copper or cranberry-bog copper, is a North American species of butterfly in the family Lycaenidae. Adults like to sip drops of dew clinging to leaves and almost exclusively nectar on their host plant, cranberries. Because of this, bog coppers will spend their entire lives within the area of a single acid bog.
