Urophycis est un genre de poissons marins appartenant à l'ordre des Gadiformes.
Urophycis regia (spotted hake or spotted codling) is a species of phycid hake. Description The spotted hake can be distinguished by its tapering body, two dorsal fins, and filamentous pelvic fins similar to the white and red hake. It differs from the two, however, but not having a third ray of the dorsal fin prolonged into a filament, by having larger scales, and a larger mouth with the end of the maxillary behind the level of the back of the eye.
Las brótolas, lochas (o merluzas barbonas en México) son la familia Phycidae, peces marinos del orden Gadiformes distribuidos por el océano Atlántico, mar Caribe y Mediterráneo. Su nombre procede del griego phykis, la hembra del phyke, un pez que vive entre algas parecido al gobio. Anatomía Tienen dos aletas dorsales y una aleta anal, nunca conectadas con la aleta caudal -lo que las diferencia de otras familias parecidas de este orden-, las aletas pélvicas con dos radios muy alargados.
