Southern Snapping Turtle

Elseya albagula est une espèce de tortue de la famille des Chelidae. Répartition Cette espèce est endémique du Queensland en Australie. Elle se rencontre dans le bassin des fleuves Fitzroy, Burnett et Mary.

Elseya albagula, commonly known as the white-throated snapping turtle, is one of the largest species of chelid turtles in the world, growing to about 45 cm (18 in) carapace length. The species is endemic to south-eastern Queensland, Australia, in the Burnett, Mary, and Fitzroy River drainages. This species is entirely aquatic, rarely coming ashore and is chiefly herbivorous, feeding on the fruits and buds of riparian vegetation, algae, and large aquatic plants.

Elseya es un género de tortugas de la familia Chelidae encontradas en los sistemas fluviales del norte y noreste de Australia y Nueva Guinea. ​ Este género fue descrito originalmente por John Edward Gray en 1867,​ estableciendo Elseya dentata como la especie tipo. El género fósil Pelocomastes se hizo posteriormente sinónimo de éste.
