Gymnocranius est un genre de poissons marins de la famille des Lethrinidae (« capitaines »).

Gymnocranius is a genus of marine ray-finned fishes belonging to the family Lethrinidae, the emperors and emperor breams. These fishes are found in the Indian Ocean and the western Pacific Ocean. Taxonomy Gymnocranius was first proposed as a monospecific genus by the German zoologist Carl Benjamin Klunzinger in 1870 with Dentex rivulatus as its only species.
