Hypancistrus furunculus

Hypancistrus est un genre de poissons d'eau douce de la famille des Loricariidae, particulièrement prisé en aquariophilie. Le plus populaire d'entre eux est Hypancistrus zebra, qui a donné aux représentants du genre leur nom commun de "Plécos zébrés". Étymologie Hypancistrus vient du grec hypo, qui veut dire "inférieur", "en dessous", et du nom de genre Ancistrus, en référence à la position de la bouche, qui est placée plus bas chez les Hypancistrus que chez les Ancistrus.

Hypancistrus furunculus is a species of freshwater ray-finned fish belonging to the family Loricariidae, the suckermouth armoured catfishes, and the subfamily Hypostominae, the suckermouth catfishes. This catfish is found in Venezuela where it occurs in the Orinoco River's main channel, up to and including the Ventuari River, it is likely that this species also occurs in neighbouring areas of Colombia. The holotype has a standard length of 65.
