Lophius budegassa, the blackbellied angler or blackbellied monkfish, is a species of marine ray-finned fish belonging to the family Lophiidae, the goosefishes, monkfishes and anglers. This species is found in the eastern Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea. Taxonomy Lophius budegassa was first formally described in 1807 by the Italian biologist Maximilian Spinola with its type locality given as the Gulf of Genoa.
