Large-eared Hutia

Mesocapromys auritus est une espèce de Rongeurs de la famille des Capromyidés qui comprend des hutias. C'est un animal qui est en danger d'extinction, endémique de Cuba. L'espèce a été décrite pour la première fois en 1979 par le zoologiste cubain Luis S.

The eared hutia or large-eared hutia (Mesocapromys auritus) is a small, endangered, rat-like mammal found only on the Caribbean island of Cayo Fragoso, off the north coast of Cuba. It lives in coastal mangrove forests and swamps and is threatened by habitat loss. It is a member of the hutia subfamily (Capromyinae), a group of rodents native to the Caribbean that are mostly endangered or extinct.

La jutía rata (Mesocapromys auritus)​ es una especie de roedor de familia Capromyidae, endémica de Cuba. Fue una de las tres especies descubiertas en 1970 por el destacado naturalista cubano Luis S. Varona.
