The greater rhea (Rhea americana) is a species of flightless bird native to eastern South America. Other names for the greater rhea include the grey, common, or American rhea; ema (Portuguese); or ñandú (Guaraní and Spanish). One of two species in the genus Rhea, in the family Rheidae, it inhabits a variety of open areas, such as grasslands, savanna or grassy wetlands.

El ñandú común o choique pampeano (Rhea americana), es una especie de ave rheiforme de la familia Rheidae. Se encuentra exclusivamente en Sudamérica. Aunque no pertenece a la misma familia, también es llamado "avestruz", debido a que así le llamaron los colonizadores europeos, al asociar el parecido del ñandú al de un animal similar ya conocido por ellos en el Viejo Mundo, el avestruz africano.
