Scardinius hesperidicus

Classification

Scardinius hesperidicus, the Italian rudd is a species of freshwater ray-finned fish belonging to the family Leuciscidae, which includes the daces, Eurasian minnows and related fishes. This species is found in the Po and Adriatic drainages east of the Po in Italy, San Marino and Switzerland, and has been introduced into other area watersheds, especially in Italy. Taxonomy Scardinius hesperidicus was first formally described in 1845 by the French art collector and biologist Charles Lucien Bonaparte with its type locality given as the lakes of Piedmont in Italy.
