The eastern woodlands of the United States covered large portions of the southeast side of the continent until the early 20th century. These were in a fire ecology of open grassland and forests with low ground cover of herbs and grasses. The frequent fires which maintained the woodlands were started by the region's many thunderstorms and Native Americans, with most fires burning the forest understory and not affecting the mature trees above.

La reinita galana​ (Setophaga discolor) es una especie de ave paseriforme de la familia Parulidae perteneciente al numeroso género Setophaga. Es un ave migratoriaque cría en el oriente de América del Norte y pasa el invierno en el Caribe. Nombres comunes Aparte de reinita galana (en Puerto Rico, Costa Rica, Panamá y Colombia, también denominada chipe galán, chipe de pradera o chipe pradeño (en México),​ cigüita de los prados (en la República Dominicana), mariposa galana (en Cuba) o chipe sabanero (en Honduras).
