Barred Owl

The barred owl (Strix varia), also known as the northern barred owl, striped owl or, more informally, hoot owl or eight hooter, is a North American large species of owl. A member of the true owl family, Strigidae, they belong to the genus Strix, which is also the origin of the family's name under Linnaean taxonomy. Barred owls are largely native to eastern North America, but have expanded their range to the west coast of North America where they are considered invasive.

La Chouette rayée (Strix varia) est une espèce de rapace nocturne appartenant à la famille des Strigidae. Description L'adulte mesure 44 cm de longueur avec une envergure de 112 cm. Il a un visage pâle avec des anneaux foncés autour des yeux, un bec jaune et les yeux bruns.

Descripción Un cárabo norteamericano adulto tiene una altura de entre 40 y 63 cm, una envergadura de 96 a 125 cm y un peso que oscila entre 500 y 1050 g. Las hembras generalmente son más grandes y pesadas que los machos.
