Le Chat ganté (Felis lybica) est une espèce de mammifère carnivore de la famille des félins. Ce petit chat sauvage se caractérise par sa fourrure grise sable, des rayures verticales pâles sur les côtés et autour de la face. Ce petit félin, que l’on croyait jusqu’à lors cantonné à l’Afrique et au Moyen-Orient, est également distribué en Asie occidentale et centrale, et est distribué au Rajasthan en Inde et au Xinjiang en Chine.
The African wildcat (Felis lybica) is a small wildcat species with sandy grey fur, pale vertical stripes on the sides and around the face. It is native to Africa, West and Central Asia, and is distributed to Rajasthan in India and Xinjiang in China. It inhabits a broad variety of landscapes ranging from deserts to savannas, shrublands and grasslands.
El gato montés africano (Felis lybica) es una pequeña especie de gato montés nativa de África, Asia occidental y central hasta Rajasthan en India y Xinjiang en China. Ha sido incluido dentro de la categoría de especie bajo preocupación menor de la Lista Roja de la UICN en 2022. Investigaciones genéticas han indicado que el gato montés africano divergió genéticamente en tres clados hace unos 173 000 años, a saber, el gato montés africano, el gato salvaje del África austral y el gato salvaje asiático.
